Dominic's VL-NA plus Turbo RB30E powered Commodore, The Project Mission: To go fast & remain in 100% street trim. NOTE: Street Trim = street tyres, street quiet exhaust, street registered, street driveable, factory computer, spare tyre, street , street, street, street, street. car lifting jack, tools, brief case, jacket, standard factory body panels & NO removal of any material causing the car to be less than OEM specified kerb weight.
Statistics: The Car purrs at 800rpm, Starts to come up to full boost around 2400rpm, Swings with a smile to 7000rpm with 196,000kms on the bottom end Spins it's tyres through all gears to 200kms/hr on the stickiest race prepped track (street rubber) Drifts from side to side as the Dom gently guides the car along in a serrated line to top speed Maintains 11.4L/100kms as it was from the factory Has all the trimmings, e.g. seats, parcel shelf, stereo, factory dash, no weight cheating etc. ********** This car started it's life cruising down the quarter mile with 14psi of boost in a 14.8 @ 96MPH. Stage 1: Configuration 240 Custom Fabrication inlet manifold Model:VLT800 Flow Modified Front Mount Inter-Cooler Stock ECU, MAF, 185cc Injectors Trimatic 3-Speed by Hugo's Race Glides Stock RB30E Engine with a Decompression Head Gasket Stock High Comp Pistons onehunglo Turbo kit BP Premium Unleaded Fuel ********** It's second street meet at WSID came back with a 1/4 pass of 14.1 @ 101MPH using 10psi boost Stage 2: Configuration 270 fitted the Bosch 044 High Pressure Fuel Pump fitted the 'Stock e-Tune' Extra Injector Kit dialled in on the night by 'Stock e-Tune' Mini-Spool Bang, broke an axle in second gear ********** It's third night at WSID flashed up on the board a 1/4 Mile pass of 13.4 @ 103MPH using 12psi Stage 3: Configuration 340 Upgraded MAF Modified Stock ECU for new MAF translation curve, & larger VLT Injectors VL Turbo Injectors Installed Disabled Extra Injector Kit Billet Axles ********** It's the forth street meet at WSID, a 1/4Mile pass of 12.3 @ 116MPH using 15psi Boost Stage 4: Configuration 410 Cam Grind by CamTech cams High Volume Oil Pump replaced the VLT Injectors with a set of 440cc units installed High Volume Low pressure fuel pump Complete Retune for the new cam by Stock e-Tune Boost pressure, Fuel Pressure, Accel-Force Data Logging device installed Cooler ranged spark plugs ********** WSID Full Throttle Friday, a 1/4Mile pass of 11.2 @ 121MPH using 17psi Boost Stage 5: Configuration 470 Slicks & Front runners Tail Shaft Loop Surge Tank Live ECU data logging & remapping at the track by Stock e-Tune Over 18 runs later, the last 10 runs @11.2's Tuned in with less than 180 seconds of data, We decided to head back to the garage as fuel was getting a little low. This day proved the cars strength & drivers consistency. ********** Dominic raced a host of cars, eg. Nissan Skyline's dyno'd at 410rwhp, pumped on 150hp Nitrous etc. beat 9sec drag cars that took 6 seconds to leave the green light due to slow turbo spool. Many other Gutted, Light weighted Commos that struggled to idle on C16 Some over rated V8's that came out real strong but ran out of puff up top. Ultimately if you enjoy a casual drive or an adrenaline rush this project has been just the one! ********** This project has stopped temporarily as any further developments would push this car well into the 10 second bracket forcing us to install a roll cage & safety harness etc to comply with ANDRA's antiquated regulations. Future Plans: (scrapped 2011) Fit a suitably large set of street tyres on the car & put the STREET back in to STREET VL. The engine & driveline have now been installed in a new project "Calais" that is currently being run-in using a similar calibration, soon to be raced (weather permitting).
